A fun and hands-on 4-week project based sewing class teaching the fundamentals of sewing.
In Weeks 1 and 2 students will start out by becoming familiar with the sewing machine. Students will learn basic sewing and design skills including project design, straight stitching, accessory design and construction, topstitching techniques, sewing with dimension, as well as working with lining to eliminate raw edges. The first two weeks will culminate in constructing a messenger bag.
In Weeks 3 and 4 students will reinforce their skills and begin working with a sewing pattern. Students will learn tips for following written and illustrated instructions to construct a reversible apron with pockets.
Materials List
Bring your own sewing machine or use one of ours. Bring your own supplies or purchase items at the class. Any supplies and tools not listed will be provided. Messenger Bag (week 1-2):

1 yard cotton, denim, upholstery weight fabric, or something similar 1 yard cotton or satin fabric for lining 3/4 yard heavy interfacing

Megan Avery of Hipstitch Academy has been teaching sewing and encouraging people to make their own clothing for over 20 years. She strives to help people embrace alternatives to fast fashion by teaching them how to sew, encouraging folks to buy used, as well as mending & altering clothes. There's nothing she loves more than watching her students' faces light up after finishing their sewing projects.
